Brian Blakeley
practices in the area of insurance and risk management. Subsequent to a
loss, he represents clients in the resolution of complex insurance and
indemnity disputes. Over the past twenty years, he has served as lead
counsel in hundreds of cases involving such issues in state and federal
trial courts throughout Texas. This practice also takes him to the
United Stats Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Texas Courts of
Appeal, and the Texas Supreme Court.
Mr. Blakeley's extensive
experience with the trial and appeal of insurance issues places him in a
unique position to advise clients on the prospective management of their
risk. In this regard, he counsels clients on the development,
evaluation, and implementation of insurance programs and other risk
transfer mechanisms.
Mr. Blakeley was raised in
San Antonio, Texas, where he attended Churchill High School. His degrees
include a Bachelor of Journalism with honors in 1976 and a Master of
Arts in 1979, both from the University of Texas at Austin. he received
his law degree in 1984 from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
While there, he was awarded a position as the leading articles editor on
the Journal of Air Law and Commerce. He was honored with
membership in the Order of the Coif. He is admitted to practice in the
Texas State Courts, the United States District Courts for the Northern,
Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, and the United States
Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
He is a member of the State
Bar of Texas (Insurance Law Section); Fifth Circuit Bar Association;
Risk Insurance Management Society; Defense Research Institute (Insurance
Law Committee); Texas Association of Defense Counsel; and Life Fellow in
the Texas Bar Foundation. He is a licensed Risk Manager in the State of
Texas.
Mr. Blakeley is presently of
counsel to Blakeley & Reynolds, P.C. From 2001 to 2006, he was President
of Blakeley & Reynolds, preceded by President of Brian Blakeley &
Associates, P.C. from 1994 to 2001. From 1991 to 1994, he was a founding
shareholder of Ball & Weed, P.C. in San Antonio, preceded by a
seven-year association with the former Groce, Locke & Hebdon, P.C. in
San Antonio. He joined that firm following graduation from law school in
1984 and was elected shareholder there in 1991. He is presently the
President of Ivex Network, Inc. formed in 2006. Mr. Blakeley holds the
highest peer review rating (AV) as compiled by Martindale-HubbellÒ.
Mr. Blakeley is a frequent
speaker and author of insurance-related publications.
